Invertebrate Olympics Training Agenda
| |
7:30 – 8:30 | Registration and Continental Breakfast |
8:30 – 10:15 | Applying to Host the Invertebrate Olympic Games After a brief overview and explanation of Olympic Ideals, teams will embark on completing numerous tasks in the hopes of making the strongest case for their country to host the Invertebrate Olympic Games later in the day. Groups will work a team to build Invertebrate Olympic stadiums that are built to specifications, reflect the culture of the host country (City), and are environmentally and disability friendly. |
10:00 – 10:15 | Break |
10:15 – 11:30 | Applying to Host the Invertebrate Olympic Games continued Participants will begin to customize this component for their classrooms. Time will be spent analyzing the core curriculum that can be embedded in each task, the depth of knowledge necessary to carry out each task, the possible management systems to develop collaboration skills and secure mastery, and the effectiveness of each method of correspondence. |
11:30 – 12:30 | Lunch (on your own) |
12:30 – 2:15 | Training the Invertebrate Athletes During this section of the training, each participant will attempt to “train” their invertebrates to compete in various events (100 mm sprint, 110 mm hurdles, long jump, etc) by investigating how the team’s set of invertebrates respond to different stimuli. Teams will record the results (times and distances) for each event and use the data to select their Invertebrate Olympic team. Finally, participants will look at the core curriculum to begin the customization process for this component as they will answer questions such as: which invertebrates to use, which events to hold, what investigations to conduct, and what angles to use in writing invertebrate biographies. |
2:15 – 2:30 | Break |
2:30 – 4:00 | Holding the Invertebrate Olympic Games During the final hour and 30 minutes, all teams will compete in the Olympic Game with each participant carrying out an assigned role. Participants will customize this last component by determining which elements of the actual Olympic Games they would like to incorporate and how this will be done. Our goal is to have each participant leave with a customized implementation and correspondence plan ready to be put into practice (transferrence). |
